A Grant Accountant (12 Months FTC) vacancy is available at our Client, Wits Health Consortium in Parktown - Johannesburg.

Background


Wits Health Consortium (Pty) Limited ("WHC") is a wholly owned Company of the University of the Witwatersrand, Johannesburg (South Africa) under its Faculty of Health Sciences.
WHC provides Faculty with a legal framework within which to operate the research and other activities necessary to support its academic objectives.
In addition WHC offers a range of products and services to the Academics conducting these activities in order to assist with the management thereof.


Main purpose of the job



  • To provide effective financial, accounting and reporting support services, aligned to Global Fund policies to the TIMS Project Management Office, SRs and other key stakeholders

Key performance areas



  • Assist the TIMS Project Management Office (PMO) with preparing/revision of budgets

  • Request project setups on the WHC procure to pay system

  • Manage expenditure according to the relevant approved budget

  • Pro-actively manage SRs to ensure timeous and accurate reporting

  • Visit SRs to perform site checks, training and ensure timeous corrective action

  • Review SR monthly reports, verify and check supporting documentation, report on ineligible expenses and follow-up

  • Provide timeous advice on the development/maintaining of financial and procurement internal control systems

  • Draft internal policies and procedures where required

  • Prepare internal monthly financial reports and TIMS financial management packs for submission to the Finance Manager

  • Provide oversight and perform reviews of Petty cash recons, advances, debit card and creditors recons

  • Ensure compliance with WHC policies and Grant Fund rules and regulations prior to processing for payment

  • Build and maintain authentic relationships with all stakeholders ensuring that all interactions are professional

  • Effectively manage work processes in order to maintain high levels of productivity

  • Ensure that TIMS files are audit ready at all times, including the preparation of the FAS

  • Assist TIMS PMO with resolving problems with sponsors as and when required

  • Effective management of accounting staff

  • Effective self- management


Required minimum education and training



  • BCom Accounting or equivalent

  • Advanced Excel, Word and Ms Office skills


Required minimum work experience



  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in finance or donor funded environment


Additional education, work experience and personal abilities



  • Able to work under tight timelines and high work volumes, given the complexity of TIMS implementation across 10 countries and several sub-recipients and sub-sub recipients

  • Experience working in a donor funded organization such as the GF or NGO

  • Able to work in a high pressured environment with multiple financial and administrative deadlines for the GF, RCM, WHC and other stakeholders

  • Excellent communication skills (both written and oral)

  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with key stakeholders

  • Able to work independently and work as part of a multidisciplinary team

  • Strong procurement background and experience would be an added advantage

  • Excellent management skills and attention to detail

  • Self- motivated
