A Medical Technologist/Scientist (Microbiology/TB) vacancy is available at our Client, Wits Health Consortium in Braamfontein - Johannesburg.

Background


Wits Health Consortium (Pty) Limited ("WHC") is a wholly owned Company of the University of the Witwatersrand, Johannesburg (South Africa) under its Faculty of Health Sciences.
WHC provides Faculty with a legal framework within which to operate the research and other activities necessary to support its academic objectives.
In addition WHC offers a range of products and services to the Academics conducting these activities in order to assist with the management thereof.


Main purpose of the job



  • To perform analytical procedures, follow safety protocol and perform daily maintenance procedure as per laboratory SOP manual and maintain the quality management system for the laboratory


Location



  • CLS, Braamfontein, Johannesburg


Key performance areas



  • Receiving and preparation of TB specimens for analysis Processing of TB samples

  • Entering results / authorization of results and reviewing of results Planning and organization of daily work

  • Maintain efficient record keeping and turnaround time Adhere to safety policies and principles of GLP GCLP Maintain quality assurance within sphere of responsibility

  • Trouble shooting wherever necessary e.g.
    identifying and solving technical problems Respond to and report quality control issues to laboratory manager

  • Monitor stock levels Client liaison

  • Apply and interpret results of internal and external quality assessment tests Perform validations and write validation reports

  • Ensure all tests are validated before implementation


Required minimum education and training



  • Medical Technologist - National Diploma in Medical Technology or BTech Medical Scientist - Masters in Microbiology/TB


Required minimum work experience



  • Minimum 2 years as a Medical Technologist in a research laboratory / clinical trials environment (Experience in TB laboratory working environment)


Professional body registration



  • Registered with Health Professions Council of South Africa as a Medical Technologist / Medical Scientist


Additional education, work experience and personal abilities



  • Consistency in achieving stringent turnaround and performance targets Good Clinical Laboratory Practice (GCLP)

  • Must be able to operate in a pressurised environment

  • Must be meticulous, assertive and have attention to detail and be able to multi-task

  • Good communication and people skills Interaction with various internal role players Prepared to work late shift when required
